2026 Committee Reorganization

Chesapeake Democrats it’s time for us to reorganize. Here is a brief description of that process from the state party:
Reorganization: Pursuant to section 8.1 of the Democratic Party of Virginia’s Party Plan, local committees are required to reorganize each odd numbered year. Each local committee will host a reorganization caucus no later than January 15, 2026, and no earlier than noon December 1, 2025. As a reminder, secret ballots are allowed to be used during any recorded vote by an elected body. However, the Reorganization Board must be able to trace which candidate each committee member voted for.
Chesapeake Reorganization Date: Thursday January 8, 2026
Location: Indian River Community Center 2250 Old Greenbrier Rd, Chesapeake VA 23325
Requirement to participate: Must be a registered voter in the City of Chesapeake and willing to fill out a form declaring your support for the Democratic Party.
Important Dates:
Deadline to become a member of the CDC, pay the $40 membership fee and participate in Reorganization: Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Deadline to file to run for an officer position: 5:00 PM on Wednesday, December 31.

If you would like to submit a paper application, please fill out the membership application attached to this email. Follow the instructions of the several ways you can submit your paper copy to one of the three members of the Election Board or mailing your application to the CDC P.O. Box by reading the Call to Reorganize (found here: https://www.chesapeakedemocrats.com/2026-committee-reorganization-information/).

*Those seeking a Committee Officer Position please read the Call to Reorganize in order to properly file.
*The Parliamentarian and Chair of the Elections Committee serve at the pleasure of the Committee Chair. Those appointments will be made at the first official CDC meeting.
